If Heroes Hung Out...

Imagine that your twelve favorite literary characters just happened to interact in some...unusual ways. My sister sent this Random Character Scenario thingy to me. And I filled it out. Enjoy! And have fun with your own version!

1.Scout Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)
2.Katniss Everdeen (the girl on fire!!!)
3.Harry Potter (Harry Potter...of course)
4. Sir Percy (Scarlet Pimpernel)
5.Mr. Darcy! (Pride and Prejudice)
6.Peeta Mellark (Hunger Games)
7.Ella (Ella Enchaned)
8.Elizabeth Bennett (P&P)
9. Gale Hawthorne (Hunger Games..)
10. Msimangu (Cry, the Beloved Country)
11.  Prince Charmont (Ella Enchanted)
12.  Ishmael (Moby Dick)
1. Who would make a better college professor 6(Peeta) or 11(Char)?
Well…they are kind of similar. Maybe char since he’s been tutored before. But if it was a culinary arts class…Peeta wins!
2.12(Ishmael) sends 8(Elizabeth) on a mission.  What is it?  Does it succeed?
He sends her to London to learn information about the best whaling ships at dock in port. If Elizabeth gave in to his request, she would succeed. But she might find it absurd. Which also might pique her interest. At the least studying the docks would help in her character study of sailors and life on the dock.
3.What is, or what would be 9(Gale Hawthorne)’s favorite book?
Not Mockingjay, that’s for sure. He might like a book on hunting, or maybe Jack London’s short story, “How to Build a Fire.”
4.Would it make more sense for 2(Katniss) to swear fealty to 6(Peeta) or the other way around?
Haha, not planned. But obviously Peeta swore eternal loyalty to Katniss from day one. Katniss tries to return the favor in Catching Fire, but we all know Peeta would die first for her sake.
5. Number 5(Mr. Darcy) is looking for a roommate.  Should he room with 9(Gale) or 10(Msimangu)?
I think Gale’s manner would offend him. Msimangu is an African intellectual preacher, or a Clergy member. I feel like they would have a lot to discuss…as long as Darcy isn’t racist.
6. 2(Katniss), 7(Ella), and 12(Ishmael) are going out to dinner.  Where are they going, and what do they discuss?
Katniss might be interested in learning about how to throw a harpoon. I’m sure Ishmael’s whaling tales would fascinate her. While Ella and Katniss are both independent females, conversation might be difficult. Maybe they could discuss the similarties between Char and Peeta…and that’s when Ishmael would leave. For some reason I can imagine them all enjoying a meal in a little tavern on the wharf.
7. 3(Harry Potter) challenges 10(Msimangu) to a duel.  Who wins?
Considering Msimangu is a declared pacifist, I’m pretty sure Harry would win this one, if they did decide to duel. I can also imagine Msimangu preaching one of his powerful sermons and converting Harry to pacifism. If that were the case, I guess he would be the victor.
8. If 1(Scout) stole 8(Elizabeth)’s most precious possession, how would she get it back?
She would probably ask Mr. Darcy to go at retrieve it for her. I’m sure Darcy could at the very least bribe Scout to return the gift quite easily. One stern look might do the trick.
9. Suggest a story title in which 7(Ella) and 12(Ishmael) both get what they want.
Of Adventure and Love
10. What kind of plot device would you use to get 1(Scout) and 4(Sir Percy) to work together?
If they were working together to prove the innocence of a mutual friend.
11. If 7(Ella) visited you for the weekend how would it go?
Great…right until I declared my love for Prince Char.
12. If you could command 3(Harry Potter) to perform any task for you what would it be?
"Why don't you shoot Voldy instead of pointing that silly wand, boy."
13. If 2(Katniss) had to choose sides between 4(Sir Percy) or 5(Mr. Darcy) what side would she choose?
Sir Percy, I think. She would find Darcy’s proud manners unbearable and would relish the undercover cause of the former.
14. What might 10(Msimangu) shout out while running into battle?
REPENT! Or maybe…LOVE is better than HATE! With a “my brother” afterward. He would probably be wielding his bible leading a legion of blind men of faith into the fray.
15. If you had to choose as song to best describe 3(Harry Potter), what would it be? "If I Die Young" -the Band Perry
16. 1 (Scout), 6 (Peeta), and 12 (Ishmael) are having a dim sum at a Chinese Restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left , and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets it?
Scout, cause she’s a young ‘un. Peeta would just go make more, actually, and then they’d all be happy.
17. What would 5(Mr. Darcy) most likely be arrested for?
Search without a warrant. He sure tracked down Wickham pretty sneakily.
18. What is 6(Peeta)’s secret?
His own intelligence. I’m not even sure he realizes it. He’s clever.
19. If 11(Prince Char) and 9(Gale) were racing to a destination, who would get there first?
Gale. That’s easy.
20. If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, who would you be more comfortable walking with, 7(Ella) or 8(Elizabeth)?
if Ella had broken the curse, then she does have some sweet skills. Like ogre sweet talking. Otherwise, I’d like a nice chat with Elizabeth.
21. 1 (Scout) and 9 (Gale) reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4 (Sir Percy)'s sinister secret organization. 11 (Prince Char) volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he is actually a spy for 4 (Sir Percy). Meanwhile, 4 (Sir Percy) has kidnapped 12 (Ishmael) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (Mr. Darcy), they seek out 3 (Harry Potter), who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fiction?

A Revolutionary Misunderstanding.

Basically Scout is being manipulated by Gale’s driven anger against Percy’s willingness to save the French noblemen. He views them as friends of the Capitol. In short, Gale is a French Revolutionary.  Initially, Prince Char volunteers to help them, until he realizes that the French noblemen are not guilty, so he turns on Gale and volunteers to help Sir Percy. Gale views this as his being a traitor and a spy. In the meantime, Sir Percy “kidnaps” Ishmael for his knowledge of shipping so that he can create a plan to disguise himself as a Whaler and sneak the French noblemen to America with Ishmael as their guide. Mr. Darcy, who hates the French, actually fears the revolutionaries. So he directs Gale to Harry Potter, knowing that Harry has a secretly formed a counter revolution at Hogwarts and therefore can lead Gale into a trap of his own, which will leave Sir Percy free to do his own bidding. Then Harry can rightly convince Scout that she has been manipulated by Gale’s persuasive hotness. However, once they are all with the underground resistance movement, Katniss appears out of nowhere and proceeds to scold Gale on his over-dramatic obsession with the revolutionaries. She declares that she cannot love a violent man, and his devastation, Gale leaves the French cause and aids Harry in his work for their rest of the war. In the end, Sir Percy wins, is heralded for his not so undercover work, and a series of books his written about him. Oddly enough, a series is also written about Harry. And since he's a wizard, he also ends up more popular. Poor Gale. There's hardly even one book written about him. Small wonder.

My Epiphany: The Power of Choice

So it’s finals week. Probably not the best time to be blogging out my thoughts, but let’s just say I’m not really in the studying mood right now. I’ll pay for it later. In a way, this blog is my release. It lets me get everything out of my mind that threatens to overwhelm me. I think too much. I’m slow of speech. But I can write. I love to write. So, when you have the sort of epiphany that I think I’ve been experiencing over the last month, it’s not something you just ignore. So...I'm releasing it. I live inside my own head most the time. Often it’s the case that I prefer observing to speaking, but that’s not socially conducive. Still, I generally only like talking to people who I feel close to. The reason? For better or worse, when I actually get to talking, it’s exactly what I’m thinking. I may not enunciate it correctly (I’m pretty horrible at that), but there’s no doubt that I’m going to be honest.   It’s like trusting someone with my inner self. Who I reall...

The good, the bad, and the awkward: The life of an American Heritage TA.

American Heritage Teaching Assistant: Basically I get to teach labs of students once a week on principles dealing with American politics/ethics/economics, particularly in relation to the Constitution. Sounds boring right? Well, it’s anything but boring. And for a political geek like me, it’s the best job out there. So here’s the good, bad, and…well, awkward. All part of why I LOVE my job. THE GOOD: Oh there are far too many to write them all, but I thought I should give a quick highlight of five experiences that remind me just how much I love my job. 1. The People. My first semester of being an American Heritage TA was particularly fun, I somehow was able to develop a pretty good relationship with all my students. I really loved having them come into the review room. It is a lot more laid back and I get to talk about their lives and interests as I try to figure out how to best help them succeed in class and beyond. So often, our conversations drifted from the actual c...
