My Thoughts on Same Gender Attraction

Most of the time I try and avoid the sort of controversy that strikes up in the case of same sex marriage or same gender attraction. But I think it’s about time I said my piece. Sometimes, amidst the whirlwind of a million extremist viewpoints and intolerance on both sides, it’s just hard to stay silent.  That said, here’s a brief disclaimer: while I am a member of the LDS church, this is meant to by my own personal opinion. (Meaning, I’m not trying to speak for the church. I hope they agree, though).  We’ll start with what will appear harsher—the written in stone—stuff. Then we’ll get on to that whole thing we call tolerance. And this is just one approach to the issue. I’m sure I could say more. First off, some blank statements of belief. Don’t get offended yet. I’ll explain later.  1. I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman lawfully wedded as husband and wife. Notice, I did just quote the LDS church’s “Proclamation on the Family.” I do not believe

“The (Hunger) Bachelor Games”: Why Suzanne Collins makes me feel guilty every Monday night.

Okay, if I’m going to do this, I guess I’m going to have to give a disclaimer first:                                                                                               Yes, I do watch the Bachelor.   I have also watched the Bachelorette. Just once. Last season. And I did indeed cry when Sean Lowe was sent home. Hence, I felt compelled to watch the Bachelor this round (for those of you already lost, don’t worry, all will reveal itself in time). So…pathetic? Yes, absolutely. But I think most of us girls know how it goes. We all understand how ridiculous the underlying plot line of the show really is.   25 girls are all competing for the same man. He forms romantic relationships with multiple women, hoping to “test the waters” and see if he might just want to marry one of them.  Needless to say, most of the end-of-season engagements never work out anyway. But regardless, every Monday night we get to watch one sexy man make out (or more!) with a number of

The Problem with Politics: America has lost its moral compass

I don’t know a lot of people who are overly satisfied with politics these days. Or congress. Or even the President. Let’s face it, many of us voted not because we had an overwhelming love for either candidate, but because we wanted to exercise our right to express ourselves. To vote. To participate in the political process. For me, I see it as my civic duty.  Still, congress has an approval rating of 14% as of today. Something seems rotten in…well, DC. Most people have heard the general rhetoric of never-ending debate. Gun Laws! No gun laws! It’s about mental illness! No it’s about education and people working together! Why couldn’t they pass the freakin’ budget plan?! What are we going to do about same sex marriage? My point is not to make a direct claim on the issues. Instead, if I may, I’d like to suggest that we take politics to a higher plane. One that is often overlooked, and even scorned. It is a question of morality. A question that I think if we ignore, will only m
